Any form of art is a form of power, it has impact, it can affect change...it can not only move us, it makes us move. - Ossie Davis
Pulse
Burning Basket of Love & Freedom
February 2009 - Maui, Hawaii
Maui, Hawaii was the location for number 14 in the Burning Basket series. Constructed of mulberry branches, hibiscus, citronella grass, palm and tea leaves. The 6' basket sculpture, a heart with wings, was created by Mavis Muller.
The sculpture, Pulse - Basket of Love & Freedom, was installed on the Ke'anae Peninsula, Maui, as part of the second annual Source Interactive Art Festival.
Pulse; rhythmic beating of a heart; to beat, throb, or vibrate with excitement;perceptible emotions of a group of people.
All were invited to interact with the heart basket in the theme of gratitude, beauty, togetherness, and releasing.
As the finale of the event Pulse - Basket of Love & Freedom was ignited and met its conclusion through fire releasing the sentiments in sparks and flames.
Note; Pulse burned concurrently with another heart shaped basket sculpture also created by Mavis Muller on the New Mexico/Mexico border named Unity - Basket of Non-Separation. The two flaming hearts burned at sundown on 2-22-09.From my heart to your heart, de mi corazon a tu corazon.
"We join in a revolutionary action of art that connects the Hawaiian Islands, New Mexico, and Chihuahua, Mexico. The sparks of Aloha, love & freedom join in the night sky with the sparks of non-separation for all our relations. With love the heart has wings." - Mavis Muller, workshop facilitator
